WHATS GOING ON!!??

Well, after some time off the team is ready to continue there journey west! There have been several new developments for those who have not been informed.

Rod and the team took some time off, approximately a week or so in the Niagara region which allowed for some rest, seeing friends, as well as allow Rod the chance to play at CicadaFest an amazing Indie music festival organized by Roger Marin and Thom Lepp. (footage to follow)

Rod Standish and the rest of the team are back on the road and surprise surprise there may be a new member or two to the Drift Communications team joining us on the journey to cross the country, for those developments though you’ll need to wait for the next set of videos!

The Map…

Thank you to the wonderful people at Converge Wireless we will shortly be up and running with a system that will update the map on an hourly bases with where ever Rod Standish is allowing you to follow him in real time.

The Converge Wireless Team have sponsored us with a blackberry phone that’s outfitted with custom software that will send a message to our map system every hour with Rods latitude and longitude. My Mileage Genie is the special software outfitted on the phone for our walk. Anyone undertaking a similar project or looking for software to track where you are/flue costs and a number of other things I would encourage you to check it out!

Thank you again to everyone who has helped us along the way thus far and for those who have donated! Its because of you that we’re able to keep this going and continue doing what we can to spread the word and help these charities get out there to the masses!

Day Seven proved to be a very eventful day. After arriving in Sackville New Brunswick we headed down to Struts Gallery as recommended by Nick, Debbie and Rob’s oldest son. The wonderful people at Struts were kind enough to allow us to use their facilities to edit and catch up on some work.

After catching up on some work and editing, while Rod was still walking we did a short interview at the CHMA radio station. (the full interview can be found in the media gallery section)

The night ended well with a room at a Super8 Motel compliments of the manager in efforts to show their support for Rod Standish and what he’s trying to accomplish. This gave Rod a nice bed to sleep in for the night, and somewhere to sit and soak his *extremely blistered* feet. Thank you to everyone at the Super8 for everything they did to help accommodate us and really make us feel at home!

To keep things short and sweet “we took a day off”. Day six we decided not to film, take photos, or record. It was our last night in Nova Scotia, so we decided to get out the tents, find a nice piece of land along the highway and camp out.

We took the day off to talk with one another, discuss what’s happened so far on our journey and just really evaluate the trip, the beautiful things that have happened and the beautiful things we’ve seen. That’s the end of Nova Scotia. So on to day seven and on to New Brunswick.

Day Five we were introduced to Nick, Debbie and Rob’s oldest son, who like the rest of the family, is so full of love and support and so willing to-do anything he can to help someone out. Rob was also kind enough today to set us up with a radio station interview in town of Parrsboro. (The full interview clip can be found in the media gallery section)

Mr Rod Standish was able to give the surrounding area a little bit of information on what he’s doing, and was also able to play one of his songs. So thank you to the staff of the Parrsboro Community Radio Station for their support and for interviewing Rod and allowing him to play / record a song.

I personally wanted to thank each of you for the kindness and love that you shared during our impromptu visit to Five Islands, Nova Scotia. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything like that from a stranger before, and it was rather refreshing and beautiful to see that there are people out there that are willing to lend a hand, and share their love and passion for life.

I can honestly say that I’m much better off than I was before having met each of you. As we continue our journey across Canada I sincerely hope that I can take some of that kindness and love that you shared with us and keep it with me, and help to share it with others. Each of you are so wealthy in every way that counts. So thank you, with all my heart thank you very much and I do hope that we meet again.

Day Three was nothing less than an emotional roller coaster for everyone involved. Early on in the day the support van broke down, luckily we were within walking distance of a toll section so we were able to easily use the facilities to contact a towing company.

Our tow truck driver Rob Lattie, ended up being nothing short of a phenomenal human being. Not only did he tow us for free, he drove us around the area trying to find the best and cheapest place to get the van repaired. After which he opened his heart and his home to us allowing us to stay with him and his beautiful family for the weekend while we sorted out the van troubles.

Robert, Debbie, Bo and Bobbie (the Lattie family) were beyond anything you would expect being in the situation we were in. They were kind, helpful, more than willing to show us around, take us on a tour of Five Islands, Nova Scotia, Parrsboro, Truro and surrounding areas, cook us dinner every night and allow us to stay in their home. They truly treated us like we were apart of the family and to feel that type of kindness and love from complete strangers is an amazingly beautiful thing, we’re better off for having met them and we all hope we can take some of that kindness with us and share it with those we come across.

The Moment you’ve all been waiting for. The first footage of Rod starting his trek across Canada. For those of you who don’t know Rod let me give you a little background information.

Rod Standish is a Niagara Region, life-long musician/ song-writer/ actor/ performer, who has already begun to get recognition for his musical prowess by none other than the “GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS”!! In 2007, Rod blew us all away and opened the eyes and ears of the rock world, as he became the man who played the longest uninterrupted rock guitar solo in history, an amazing 58.5 hours long!

Now he has set out to show his dedication to creating a “GREENER” earth and to share his undying love for the gift of music in his life. He wants nothing more than to spread the beauty that music has brought into his world with Canadian children, music educators, and performers alike.

He has embarked on this journey, virtually sponsor less, but hopeful You, Canada and the world will join him in this most noble of endeavors.

Today is Earth Day thus, Rod’s walk from the Atlantic to the Pacific has officially started, and with the beginning of the walk comes a lot of news, a lot of footage and few small updates along the way.

The image gallery page is now fully functional and all images will be sorted by province. By end of day today we’ll have a map on the website where you can track Rod’s progress, and there is a load of new information on how you can help support Rod in his journey so check the “Join The Movement” page. ROD STANDISH

Rod’s been walking since 8am this morning, his leaving point was Point Pleasant Park in Halifax Nova Scotia. Before he left he put both of his feet in the Atlantic Ocean and blessed us with a song. Footage will be available shortly, until then here’s some photos.

Rod Caught up with us about an hour ago after 5hours of walking, in the rain to take a breather and change some clothes then he was off again. His goal today to make it from Point Pleasant Park to Shubenacadie to camp for the night. Below you’ll find photos from our meet up with Rod after walking in the rain for 5hours, and him departing again. Footage to follow.

Upon our Arrival (Mike and Paul) in Shubenacadie to scout out a location for Rod to camp for the night, we were met with such enthusiasm that we were able to secure rod a free meal, and a cabin to stay in for the night with hydro and heat. So thank you to the people of Shubenacadie who’ve really put out there hand to help Rod along the way.

So we’ve arrived in Halifax, even though Rod’s walk hasn’t officially started the journey certainly has! We kicked off the arrival with Rod playing a gig at Stayner’s Wharf, ended up staying a night at the Delta Chelsea Hotel and the adventure continues! The video upload is on a bit of a delay since we need time to edit and upload so a lot more has happened but you’ll have to keep watching to find out!

The sound issue for the videos has been fixed! so you’ll have nothing but high quality sound and video from now on! We were able to stop in a little city and get the issue resolved. We’ve also now equipped Rod with a voice recorder so while he’s on the road walking he can record his thoughts and we’ll be posting those directly to the website!…

The website is being updated all today and tomorrow, so we’ll have a lot more content, the image gallery will be started, more videos, more ways you can help us and even join us on this adventure!! We’re going to have a map so you can track our progress, find out where we are and hopefully come on out, join us, enjoy the campfire with us, sing, and just love life.

A big thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us along the way, from everyone on Queen Street, to our friends, families and loved ones. Everyone we’ve met on the road who’s just had encouraging words, given us a place to stay and edit… thank you.

A Message From Mike:

Hey everyone, I just wanted to leave a message here to thank everyone who came out to the fundraiser, and just everyone in general who’s really shown their love and support during the process of getting this adventure underway……

I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I think it’s pretty safe to say that everyone involved in the project is really feeling the love and support and well wishes that everyone’s sending.

Personally for me in the last little while, I’ve been blessed enough to really experience something beautiful and I’m so thankful that I’m getting to participate in this… I’ve had complete strangers really open up their hearts and share some truly unbelievable things and I can’t wait to meet all the people along the way and to meet you!
