WHATS GOING ON!!??

Well, after some time off the team is ready to continue there journey west! There have been several new developments for those who have not been informed.

Rod and the team took some time off, approximately a week or so in the Niagara region which allowed for some rest, seeing friends, as well as allow Rod the chance to play at CicadaFest an amazing Indie music festival organized by Roger Marin and Thom Lepp. (footage to follow)

Rod Standish and the rest of the team are back on the road and surprise surprise there may be a new member or two to the Drift Communications team joining us on the journey to cross the country, for those developments though you’ll need to wait for the next set of videos!

The Map…

Thank you to the wonderful people at Converge Wireless we will shortly be up and running with a system that will update the map on an hourly bases with where ever Rod Standish is allowing you to follow him in real time.

The Converge Wireless Team have sponsored us with a blackberry phone that’s outfitted with custom software that will send a message to our map system every hour with Rods latitude and longitude. My Mileage Genie is the special software outfitted on the phone for our walk. Anyone undertaking a similar project or looking for software to track where you are/flue costs and a number of other things I would encourage you to check it out!

Thank you again to everyone who has helped us along the way thus far and for those who have donated! Its because of you that we’re able to keep this going and continue doing what we can to spread the word and help these charities get out there to the masses!

A song for Robert Lattie. During our beautiful stay in Five Islands, Nova Scotia: with Rob Lattie and his wonderful family. We were told about his ship the ‘Roberta Rae’ so this is a song that Mr Standish wrote for Rob Lattie.

Today is Earth Day thus, Rod’s walk from the Atlantic to the Pacific has officially started, and with the beginning of the walk comes a lot of news, a lot of footage and few small updates along the way.

The image gallery page is now fully functional and all images will be sorted by province. By end of day today we’ll have a map on the website where you can track Rod’s progress, and there is a load of new information on how you can help support Rod in his journey so check the “Join The Movement” page. And now on to Rod and where he’s at…

ROD STANDISH

Rod’s been walking since 8am this morning, his leaving point was Point Pleasant Park in Halifax Nova Scotia. Before he left he put both of his feet in the Atlantic Ocean and blessed us with a song. Footage will be available shortly, until then here’s some photos.

Rod Caught up with us about an hour ago after 5hours of walking, in the rain to take a breather and change some clothes then he was off again. His goal today to make it from Point Pleasant Park to Shubenacadie to camp for the night. Below you’ll find photos from our meet up with Rod after walking in the rain for 5hours, and him departing again. Footage to follow.

Upon our Arrival (Mike and Paul) in Shubenacadie to scout out a location for Rod to camp for the night, we were met with such enthusiasm that we were able to secure rod a free meal, and a cabin to stay in for the night with hydro and heat. So thank you to the people of Shubenacadie who’ve really put out there hand to help Rod along the way.

and that’s it for now. While we’re awaiting his arrival we will try to get some more footage cut and uploaded so everyone can keep up-to date. Thank you again to everyone who’s shown their support and all the people who’ve been e-mailing Rod well wishes!!

The sound issue for the videos has been fixed! so you’ll have nothing but high quality sound and video from now on! We were able to stop in a little city and get the issue resolved. We’ve also now equipped Rod with a voice recorder so while he’s on the road walking he can record his thoughts and we’ll be posting those directly to the website!…

The website is being updated all today and tomorrow, so we’ll have a lot more content, the image gallery will be started, more videos, more ways you can help us and even join us on this adventure!! We’re going to have a map so you can track our progress, find out where we are and hopefully come on out, join us, enjoy the campfire with us, sing, and just love life.

A big thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us along the way, from everyone on Queen Street, to our friends, families and loved ones. Everyone we’ve met on the road who’s just had encouraging words, given us a place to stay and edit… thank you.

A Message From Mike:

Hey everyone, I just wanted to leave a message here to thank everyone who came out to the fundraiser, and just everyone in general who’s really shown their love and support during the process of getting this adventure underway……

I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I think it’s pretty safe to say that everyone involved in the project is really feeling the love and support and well wishes that everyone’s sending.

Personally for me in the last little while, I’ve been blessed enough to really experience something beautiful and I’m so thankful that I’m getting to participate in this… I’ve had complete strangers really open up their hearts and share some truly unbelievable things and I can’t wait to meet all the people along the way and to meet you!

So keep checking back, we’re going to get a small map on the website so you can find out where we are and where we going to be… come out and say hi, or at the very least send us an email on the contact page or drop some comments!!
