Well who are these guys?
“The Drift Team” is a division of VanEyk Media. spearheaded by Filmmaker, Paul Lacroix and Creative Director, Mike Morris. Follow their journey as they travel across Canada documenting their experiences and perspectives in support of Rod Standish and The Green Tour.
So what motivates them, why do it?
Drift Communications was founded on the belief that love is the only truth and everything else an illusion. The concept of improvisational drift was first introduced to us via the world renowned author Jane Jacobs. In her third book entitled “Cities and the Wealth of Nations” Jane Jacobs ends the book with a chapter entitled Drift. In it she introduces us to the works of Japanese anthropologist, Tado Umesao. To quote from the book directly ” Tado Umesao observes that historically the Japanese have always done better when they drifted in an empirical, practical fashion (’Even during the Meiji revolution, there were no clear goals; no one knew what was going to happen next’) than when they attempted to operate by ‘resolute purpose’ and ‘determined will’. This is true of other peoples, too, although Umesao believes what he calls ‘an esthetics of drift’ is distinctively Japanese and one of the major differences between Japanese and Western cultures. Had he been looking at Europe and America in the past rather than the present, he would have seen, I think, that ‘an esthetics of drift’ was distinctively Western too, and worked better for western cultures than ‘resolute purpose’ and ‘determined will’.”
To paraphrase, there is a natural river of love within us all. ‘Resolute purpose’ and ‘determined will’ traditionally acts as a hindrance to that natural river. We wish to drift along with Rod Standish and Seven and improvise as we go along. Meaning, allowing others to help support us along the way as the needs present themselves. We in turn offer anyone a chance to express themselves on video to a wide international audience via our website. Like so many musicians past and present, we believe in love. Rod and Seven have inspired us to set sail into the unknown, with faith in our hearts that love will provide.
